David Moyes has revealed his first transfer window after taking charge of Manchester United in 2013 was a dismal one.
The 61-year-old also revealed that Cesc Fabregas was close to joining United from Barcelona that summer. But the deal fell through UFABET
The Scottish manager took over from Sir Alex Ferguson 11 years ago at United but lasted less than a season. With the team finishing seventh in April 2014.
He then had spells at Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham before leaving the east London club this summer.
Moyes recently described the difficult 2013 transfer window in an interview with the Up Front podcast. Explaining why he missed out on a number of targets. Including Tottenham’s Fabregas and Gareth Bale.
He also said United had to wait until deadline day to sign midfielder Marouane Fellaini from his former club Everton.
“Both myself and Sir Alex Ferguson said ‘Cesc Fabregas’ and we talked about him and he said ‘Yes, we will bring Cesc Fabregas in’.
“Cesc was not in the Barcelona squad at the end of the season. We spoke to Cesc and Cesc agreed that if he was not selected to play in his first game for Barcelona. He would move to Man United.”
“And the other part is I want Gareth Bale. We made a bigger offer to Tottenham. We made a bigger offer to him, his agent, And we’re all done.”
“We have a helicopter waiting to try to get Gareth to come.”
“He wanted to sign Leighton Baines as well but going back to Everton was very difficult. Because Bill (Kenwright) and was still angry with me for not getting things right and both deals fell through. Gareth had his heart set on Real Madrid and I couldn’t change that.”
