After failing to sign Girona’s Ukraine international Artem Dovbyk, Atletico Madrid have turned their attentions to Sorloth. And have reportedly agreed a deal with Villarreal worth around €35m. But the Yellow Submarine are holding off on allowing the 28-year-old to join Atletico until a replacement is found.
‘The transfer market is the same for everyone. We all want the team to close from the first day of the season. But it is very complicated because from August 17 to September 1 there are still many days. We are working, we have to respect the time. The needs are clear for us. Sorloth is a Villarreal player and we have not looked for a replacement and from there we will continue working,’ Tena said.
Villarreal’s sporting director also admitted he regretted Philippe Jorgensen’s move to Chelsea. As the club wanted the Danish goalkeeper to stay at the club for many years. Tena also confirmed the departure of 24-year-old defender Jorge Cuenca to Fulham at the same time.
